Timing a wedding day around the light

Tropical light is harsh in the middle of the day and excellent for the hour before sunset. The timeline should be built around that, not around a preferred start time.

Wedding Photography Timing in Phuket — Phuket

Work backwards

Fix sunset for your date first. Place the ceremony 75 to 90 minutes before it. That leaves the ceremony in soft light, group photographs immediately after, and couple portraits in the final 30 minutes before the sun goes.

Everything else — hair and makeup call times, guest arrival, transport — is then scheduled backwards from the ceremony.

Group photographs

Group shots take longer than couples expect: roughly three minutes per configuration once people are found. A written list of eight to twelve groups, and one person from each family who knows who is who, is the difference between 20 minutes and 50.

Drone footage

Drone use in Thailand is regulated and requires registration, and there are restrictions near the airport and in some coastal areas. Confirm with your videographer that they operate legally at your specific location rather than assuming.

The Thai ceremony variable

If you are holding a morning Thai ceremony, you have two separate looks and two separate light conditions in one day. Hair and makeup need a second call, and the day starts earlier than most couples plan for.
